The Trumpeters (A Troupe of Trumpeters)
Artist:Nainsukh
| Support Type: | Paper |
| Paint Type: | Watercolor |
| Current Location: | The British Museum, London, United Kingdom |
| Location History: | The painting was formerly held in a private collection and was once owned by the British painter Winifred Nicholson, who acquired it around 1919โ1920. In 2018, the UK government placed a temporary export ban on the work because of its outstanding artistic significance. Following a fundraising campaign supported by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Art Fund, and the Brooke Sewell Permanent Fund, the British Museum acquired the painting in 2020, where it is now preserved in the museum's South Asia collection. |
The painting provides the viewers a very pulsating and humane experience. Through the faces of the musicians, we feel the physical exertion, puffed cheeks providing a visual but audial experience. And giving the faces of the musicians, each vivid and different from one another, the painting feels intimate and organic, this providing a artistically vivid narrative of everyday life.
