François Clouet’s The Love Letter masterfully captures a complex triangular dynamic of desire, deceit, and complicity. Inspired by Commedia dell'Arte tropes, the subtle interplay of gazes—linking the procuress, lover, and courtesan—draws the viewer directly into the fold. The composition beautifully balances theatrical intimacy with timeless human vulnerability.
