François Clouet (1510-1572), son of the court painter Jean Clouet, was a miniaturist and painter, known for his detailed portraits of the French ruling family in the French Renaissance style. He was a highly sought-after portrait artist, working for several French kings, including Francis I, Henry II, and Charles IX, and many other members of nobility. Under the patronage of Claude Gouffier de Boisy and Seigneur d’Orion, Clouet became a central artist figure of 16th century France.
