The artwork "Prayers and Recitations at the Muharram Festival" by Sewak Ram is an exceptional portrayal of the gravity of the Muharram mourning ceremony. As opposed to the ritualistic portrayal of the religious festival, Sewak Ram manages to depict the emotions and devotion of the participants inside the Imambara. The intricate Tazia depicted in the center of the artwork becomes the focal point of the piece and stands for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. The dark setting, muted colors used in the painting, and the participants in white, black, and green outfits contribute to the depiction of sorrow and reverence that characterizes the event. Sewak Ram manages to give his subjects distinct facial expressions through the gentle strokes of his brush, making the event more intimate and unique.
