Zulaykha in her palace and as an old woman with Joseph is an ink on paper album leaf by Mushfiq, created in the early 17th century. The artwork depicts a Persian retelling of the bible, and consists of two scenes from the story between Zulaykha and Joseph. In the story, as depicted in the top scene, a younger Zulaykha attempts to make advances on Joseph, but was rejected by him as she was married at the time. The artist uses detailed brushwork and vibrant colours to depict the lavishness of Zulaykha’s home as she attempts to seduce Joseph. They finally become reunited, many years later, when Zulaykha was widowed, as shown in the bottom scene where Zulaykha is an old woman while Joseph retained his youthfulness because of his virtuosity. The potted narcissus flowers at the bottom suggest that Zulaykha will eventually have her youth restored to her. https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/zulaykha-in-her-palace-and-as-an-elderly-woman-with-joseph-recto-from-a-panj-ganj-five-treasures-of-abd-al-rahman-jami-persian-14141492/XQH3m8io1AvBCg https://www.clevelandart.org/art/2013.315.1
