“To the Temple” is one of the best traditional Indian realistic paintings by the famous Indian painter, Raja Ravi Varma. “To the Temple” portrays the image of a young girl in traditional white clothing, carrying a heavy water jar strapped on her waist and a small pot in her right hand. She is slightly bent to her left side and has a pleasant smile, making her appear dignified and serene. The texture of her face and the delicate nature of her dressing bring out the flare of Ravi Varma in mixing the European style of painting with the Indian way. The painting portrays the girl in a tranquil scene of a river surrounded by trees and people in the background.
