Krishna asks for sweets, from a Sursagar of Surdas

Artist:Sur Das
Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Tempera
Current Location: The Cleveland Museum of Art

This artwork belongs to Mewar school of Miniature painting. The visual elements such as the bold use of saturated colors (reds, yellows, and deep greens), the flat architectural elements, the stylized profiles of the figures, and the distinctive yellow band at the top containing Devanagari text are some characteristics of the style. Whereas, it is refreshing to see the author himself placed in the composition making a poignant portraiture of himself.
