Anant was one of the court painter of the Mughal emperor Akbar. His works belongs in manuscript like Akbarnama, Kalīla wa-Dimna amongst others. He also collaborated with other painters of the royal court. Majority of his work belongs to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London while some in the British Library.
This painting is part of 'Kalīla wa-Dimna' a Persian version of Panchtantra. The devotee in the picture believes that the mongoose killed his child after seeing blood on his mouth so he killed the mongoose and later finds out that his child is alive and mongoose actually killed the snake who was going to hurt the child. This scene depicts regret of the devotee. There are so many colours used in this painting. The man is seen wearing yellow jama while the house is white and nearby it's grass and mongoose is also laid there who died because of the devotee's mistake. In this picture one can see the devotee along with mongoose, snake, his child nearby in the cradle decorated with red fabric. Detailing of the house, garden, cradle, the devotee's cloth are to be noticed. It is currently located in the British Library
