The Conquest of the Air

Support Type: Canvas
Paint Type: Oil Paint
Current Location: The Museum of Modern Art, New York City, USA

Roger de La Fresnaye's "The Conquest of the Air" is part of the Cubist movement. This painting is done just before the First World War. Transformation of aviation thus forms the major subject of the painting. While there is no aircraft in sight, two men can be seen sitting. They represent the intellectual labour that went behind conquering the sky.
