Rejoicing at birth of Prince Salim

Artist:Kesu Kahar
Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Watercolor
Current Location: The Victoria and Albert Museum, United Kingdom

The given painting by kesu Das depicts a moment of happiness in Fatehpur Sikri upon the birth of prince Salim who later is known in history as Jahangir. Earlier two sons of Akbar had died shortly after birth so the birth of Salim was a joyous moment for the whole empire. The painting nicely captures the happiness among the members of the court and outside the court. The author has also given a good analysis of the artwork.
