The painting depicts the reign of Humayun as we see him depicted as the central figure. Later on, the painting was turned into a group portrait of the Timurid dynasty by Jahangir. He further had himself, his father, two eldest sons added to the painting. In 1628, when Shah Jahan ascended the throne, he had himself and his heir added. What fascinated me about this artwork is that we don't see a depiction of a singular time period; we see a continuously developed artwork that isn't fixed in time. The garden is considered a symbol of the gardens in heaven in Islam; furthermore, the garden was also a medium to show how wealthy an emperor is at the time.
