The painting shows an uncanny intimate meeting of the female figure with her reflection. In the center of the composition, the woman is in deep blue, and beside her, a darker, almost ghostly reflection from the mirror. Her eye is big and expressive, her profile finely modeled, her inward, contemplative presence brought to a point.
