Ponniyin Selvan, or Son of Ponni, a historical fictional account tracing the characters from the Chola Empire. Considered as one of the greatest literary work produced in Tamil culture, the story includes one of the main characters, Nandini as shown in the above painting known for her majestic, enchanting personality with a tinge of mystery and conspiracy to her ideas and actions. Her consort, Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, a nobleman with military standing. Their marriage sheds light upon the common practice of establishing secure alliance for women of the empire in the Ancient Indian culture.
