Beneath his feet on the globe, a lion and a goat lay peacefully together to signify absolute justice and peace ("dad u dam") under his imperial reign. The globe itself rests safely on the horns of a cosmic cow, which stands atop a great catfish—traditional Islamic and regional symbols of cosmic kingship and global equilibrium. Flanked by European-style winged cherubs who descend from the golden clouds to hand him holy weapons, Jahangir aims a bow to shoot a second arrow through the severed head of Malik Ambar. Ambar's head is shown impaled on a javelin standard, with his mouth agape and eyes rolled back in an intentionally disrespectful manner. An owl, representing an inauspicious omen of death and ruin, sits perched directly on top of the decapitated head, highlighting Jahangir’s absolute triumph over his nemesis.
