This painting is from the Bahram Mirza Album. This album is kept in Topkapi Palace Library Istanbul with number H. 2154. Bahram Mirza Album says it was compiled by Dust Muhammad Haravi between 1543 and 1545 for Prince Bahram Mirza. He is also called Dust Muhammad Musawwir. On the left side there is a prince wearing an orange long robe and a tall white Safavid turban with a red top. On the right side there is a courtier or a page wearing a blue robe and a brown cap. He is holding a small jug in his hand. They are facing each other and the prince is giving his hand to the courtier. Both figures have fine facial details with small beards and calm expressions showing respect. The background is light beige with no architecture, so full focus stays on the two persons and their gesture. Between them there is a small thin tree and some green grass on the ground. The material is opaque watercolor, ink and gold on paper. The pigments were made from natural materials like minerals. The artist is Dust Muhammad who was a famous Persian painter in Safavid court. The date is 1544 AD and it is part of Bahram Mirza Album fol. 131b. There are three more works by Dust Muhammad in this album - two miniatures with caption Master Dust and one calligraphic passage signed Dust-Muhammad Musavvir which means the painter. The painting shows court life and respect in Safavid period. The garden setting shows peace and elite culture. It is now kept in Topkapi Palace Library Istanbul H.2154. It is an early example of Persian miniature that later influenced Mughal painting when Dust Muhammad went to India.
