Confidenze (Confidences)

Armando Spadini (1883-1925), an Italian artist born in Florence, was from the era of the movements of Impressionism, Symbolism, and the early stages of Roman School (Scuola Romana). He completed his education at the Accademia di Belle Arti, and later moved to Rome where he developed his distinctive style. He was nicknamed as "Italian Renoir", that is a reference to his master skills in managing lighting, warm color palette, and his loose expressive brushwork. The majority of Spadini’s artworks revolve around the themes of domestic interiors, portraits, and landscapes. Though he was inspired by the French Impressionism movement, Spadini created his own unique style by blending it with Italian artistic traditions. His artworks reflect emotional stability, with symbols of love, family, simplicity, and innocence of daily life majorly constituted in them. “Confidenze (Confidences)” by Armando Spadini is an oil painting bthat was created during 1919-1920. The artwork depicts the Armando's wife, Pasqualina Cervone, with their firstborn daughter Anna on a bed in their home in Rome. They sit very close to each other, dressed in plain clothes of that period. The young girl, Anna leans towards her mother's body with a tender embrace to have a confidential conversation with her. With a peaceful pose and folded hands, the mother listens to her child's words. Spadini captured an everyday family scene in a poetic way by using soft and bright colours, expressive brushstrokes, and lighting effects.
