The painting Christ in the wilderness, served by angels, is a reflection of the early Baroque phase, specifically representing the Bolognese school style. Here, one could see the indulgence of intense emotions rendered by Ludovico with a touch of naturalistic observations, as well as withstand the classical structure. Also, this painting holds a mastery by the artist where the atmospheric style and version of chiaroscuro are used with a softer touch. Further, this painting is an illustrated version of the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, which creates an emotional motion in the painting by itself. So in the centre we can see Christ washing his hands, which was considered a ritualistic practice before having something to eat. Where Christ could be seen surrounded by angels, one holding a basin and other pours water from a golden rendered jug. And the other angels hold a cloth, and behind Christ, a table has been set up with a white cloth, which denotes as a slab mainly like an altar. For a moment, the painting feels like a mystical scene in itself with a very dreamy finish done by Ludovico. Moreover, all the elements rendered in the painting hold a symbolic message or a reason behind, where when we focus on the white cloth, it resembles the mirrors of the corporal, which stands as an altar cloth mainly used by the priests. And the action of washing hands as well resonates with the priest's practice, which is done before consecrating the bread and the wine. At last, Ludovico has rendered the figures with great precision, which reflects real emotion at a glance. Therefore, one can conclude this work of art as a fusion of early Baroque and Counter-Reformation, which transforms the moment into a moment of triumph with a divine celebration of divine solace.
