The above showcases a man engrossed into reading perhaps a book. The seemingly Parsi gentleman is seated and dressed in a white long garment (kurta) with a cap. His facial expression hints that he is at peace, contend and focused on the content of the writing. The background is that of a common room with a table at the side and a wooden easel. It is a possibility that the painting might be a self potraiture of the artist himself. Deeply embedded in realism, this art work has made use of 'chiaroscuro', a visible contrast between darkness and light, in which there is only a single source of rays.
