This work, clearly by the style is a Mughal painting. The backstory goes with Akbar and his elephant "Udiya", leading an army in Northeast India. This scene is recorded in Akbar's famous book to refer, "Akbarnama". The painting is done by Nand Gawaliari and Jagan as a contribution via outline in this painting. This fact is known to us by the Persian writings inscribed in the painting. The writing also tells us the core conflict in a poetic manner (known via translation of the same). The striking feature of this painting includes ripples near the legs and the details while making hairs (horse mane). The figures are looking at each other, showing expressionism and communication. Akbar and the elephant are shown larger in the center. This is not a perspective error but infact a method to bring the focus of the viewer to the King. This feature called "hierartic scale". The boat in the back has its oar immersed partially in the water too showing complete harmony and presence of mind of the artists (completing the boat with its oar). Technically, it follows the "S-curve" grid.
This particular piece is a classic example of Mughal miniature painting. Part of the Akbarnama, this is done by Nand Gawaliari and Jagan. The emperor is seen on an elephant, crossing the river Ganges. Bright colours are used to show the exuberance.
