Mola Ram (1743–1833) was a renowned Indian painter, poet, historian, and diplomat from Srinagar in present-day Uttarakhand. He is widely credited with developing the Garhwal School of miniature painting, one of the most distinctive branches of Pahari art. Born into a family of artists, he inherited and refined the traditions of Mughal miniature painting while creating a unique regional style. His paintings are admired for their graceful figures, delicate landscapes, and themes inspired by Hindu mythology and courtly life. Besides painting, Mola Ram wrote historical and literary works that provide valuable insights into the history of the Garhwal Kingdom. He continued his artistic and literary work through the rule of the Garhwal kings, the Gorkha occupation, and the early British period. Today, he is remembered as one of Uttarakhand\'s greatest cultural figures and a pioneer of Indian miniature painting.
