The painting given above is a great example of late Renaissance and early Enlightenment period Europe. Rich in its shading, smooth finishing, rich colouring, a realistic and a three dimensional effect- it represents the prime epitome European naturalism that grew in that in art and culture. It also gives a glimpse into the artistic skill and style of Sylvester Schhedrin, who was among the flag bearers of Romanticism- the idea that arose in late nineteenth century Europe which stressed on the importance and beauty of human feelings, emotions and mystical feelings over the growing materialism and mechanization which characterized the so called scientific temperament that was seen as the soul of the era of enlightenment. As an artwork, the painting is a fine masterpiece the brilliance of which is exhibited in the sketching, colouring and the way the artist had tried to capture an almost photographic imagery of the scene in front of his eyes.
