I really like the contrast between the butler and those outside. I think it gives a really powerful insight into the state of Russia in the early 1870s. I find the architecture a fascinating backdrop for these people. The colour scheme is warm yet basic, perhaps reflecting the needs of Russians. I find it interesting that only one is painted in a red cloak which makes them stand out immediately - I wonder what that represents.
