Basawan was a court painter of Akbar and while at the court, he came under the influence of Abd-al Samad, the Persian miniature artist. About 100 miniature paintings have been attributed to Basawan. His earliest works can be seen in Tutinama apart from which his illustrations also appear in Akbarnama, Razmnama and Darabnama. The mianiature here is a classic instance of his style which has influences of Persian miniature painting.
