The painting is exquisite in its portrayal of the tender love of Siyavush and Farangis as well as the grand tradition of the royal wedding. By locating the couple within a pavilion and the musicians outside on the terrace, the artist managed to make a private, marital celebration a part of a public festival. Indeed, the architecture serves to isolate the loving couple from the bustling courtyard while at the same time focusing the music on the intimate setting of the marriage. In short, the painting captures the idea that a personal, affectionate gesture can become part of a larger, ceremonial act.
