The Potrait of Laure Bro is one of the lesser known paintings of Theodore Gericault. It comes under his painting of the conventional potraits unlike the potraits of the insane which were more popular. It was made from 1818 to 1820. It is a Romantic potraiture as it can be seen by the style and subtlety. In the painting Laure bro wears a simple white dress with a blue accent under her bust. Her hair is parted in the middle and pinned up neatly. Her blue accents under her bust match with the blue ballets she is wearing. It can be seen, her left hand is covered with a glove while her right hand beneath is not bare. This shows a much more deeper meaning as an act of rebellion. By this, she is able to show that she is a romantic heroine who has the desire to reject norms of the society. She constantly looks ate the viewer to assert her presence as a romantic heroine. From the gloves, it can be seen, as she is wearing it in one hand, she is complying by the rules of society, and by taking off one glove, she is rejection the glove etiquette for ladies in that era, making her a Romantic heroine. She has a neutral expression towards the viewer while sitting in a relaxed position. Gericault has captured the feminine and subtle features beautifully as it can be seen by thelandscapes in the background, through a light curtain that is spread across the window. The light falls in such a way that it does not saturate the entire scene of the painting. This shows how even after moving from Classicism to Romanticism, he had excelled in capturing each movement's essence in it, by thourough study.
