Support Type: Canvas
Paint Type: Oil Paint
Current Location: Palazzo dei Musei (Musei Civici di Reggio Emilia)
Location History:The painting was presented at the “Promotrice torinese” exhibition of 1875, then it was purchased by the nobleman Roberto Levi of Reggio and, later, donated to the Municipality of Reggio Emilia.

This painting ‘the loneliness’ signifies grief of solitude. It shows the raw pain of losing someone. The night sky and barren land personifies itself to be the woman’s grief, raw and heartbreaking, barely clinging on to life as time passes. It’s a masterpiece that acts as a metaphor for pain and tragedy of not having to share the good and bad moments with anyone.
