Location History:Commission & Initial Residence Installation (1583–1584): Commissioned by Giulio Cesare Guerini for the private residence/chapel of the Compagnia del Santissimo Sacramento at San Giorgio in Poggiale, Bologna Transfer to Main Church Fabric (c. 1635): Moved into the main church of San Giorgio in Poggiale following the completion of the new church building. Post-WWII Transfer to Museum (1940s): Removed during WWII to protect it from aerial bombardment, after which it was housed permanently in the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna.

Ludovico Carracci’s The Annunciation is an amazing example which shows the reform of the Bolognese painting in response to the demands of the counter reformation.
