"The Angel of Life” by Giovanni Segantini cannot be interpreted only as symbolic representation of life and protection depicted through imaginary of motherhood and the trees surrounding. It also reflects the cycle of life where death is inevitable and everything becomes null and void and life before death is just a part of that cycle. of nature where every being meets with it end and nothing is everlasting. Segantini's own early life involved his mother's death and a fairly traumatic unstable childhood before he was effectively adopted into a more stable domestic situation. Some art historians read his obsessive returns to mother-and-child imagery late in his career as seeking the maternal security thriugh paintings that he didn't have growing up.
