Raja Ravi Varma’s Sita Bhumipravesh depicts the emotional moment when Sita returns to the earth after facing rejection and suffering. In the painting, Sita is shown with a calm yet sorrowful expression, while the surrounding figures reflect grief and helplessness. The earth opening beneath her symbolises her return to her mother, Mother Earth. The painting represents Sita’s purity, dignity, patience, and sacrifice despite the injustice she experiences. Ravi Varma uses realistic figures, expressions, clothing, and colours to make the mythological scene emotionally powerful. The main message is that Sita remains strong and dignified even in suffering, representing virtue and self-respect.
