Tsuchida Bakusen (1887–1936) was one of the most influential painters of the Nihonga movement in modern Japan. Born in Kyoto, he sought to preserve traditional Japanese painting while also incorporating ideas from Western art. Bakusen was a founding member of the Kokuga Society, which encouraged innovation in Japanese painting.
