What's extremely striking is the way absence is handled with no figure present you can still tell the room is heavily inhabited like it's holding on to a memory that has departure a long time ago. This emptiness allows the light to seep in making it the focal point of the painting. The warm and cool contrast of the colours are spectacular and also depicts the ongoing turmoil of contrasting emotions presence (depicted by light) and absence (depicted by lack of subject) that co-exist in the painting
