“Rai Surjan Hada Making Submission to Akbar” is a significant Mughal miniature painting from the *Akbarnama*, created around 1590–1595 by Shankar with outlines by Mukund. It depicts Rai Surjan Hada surrendering to Emperor Akbar after the conquest of Ranthambhor in 1569. Akbar’s position beneath a canopy symbolizes his authority, while the presence of courtiers and soldiers adds life to the composition. The painting combines Persian and Indian artistic traditions, a hallmark of Mughal art. Its vibrant colours, intricate details, and dramatic landscape showcase artistic excellence while highlighting Akbar’s military power, diplomacy, and efforts to build alliances with Rajput rulers.
