Procession in the Abbey at Tiglieto

Support Type: Canvas
Paint Type: Oil Paint
Current Location: Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, Spain
Location History:In 1930, this canvas was acquired by the Prado, transferred from the Museo de Arte Moderno (now the Museo Reina Sofia; formally ingested in 1971), and is one of the prime examples of 19th-century Spanish-Italian cultural exchange.

The above painting, apart from being an artwork is also repository of an art movement in nineteenth century Italy and Spain. The painting reflects a sense of revival of belongingness to culture and religion, as shown through figures of farmers and village inhabitants, both men and women, kneeling across a grassy land that lies just before a large abbey, gathering for some festive occasion. As an artwork, it shows a brilliant use of European realism.
