This artwork reveals a tense atmosphere between a Father i.e. Peter the Great and his son Alexei Petrovich. The scene is set in the Monplasir Palace at Petrohof. The reason behind this tense atmosphere is Alexei Petrovich’s attempt to seize the throne by fleeing to Austria. Peter the Great is seated with his legs crossed and his eyes filled with rage and suspicion towards his son. Meanwhile , Alexei has his gaze lowered mainly avoiding his father’s stare filled with rage. The artist Nikolai Ge carefully went through several observations to create this painting which portrays the truth of the historical event that is still being presented to people of the present.
