Mir Muizzu'l Mulk and Bahadur Khan

Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Watercolor
Current Location: Victoria and Albert Museum, London

“Mir Muizzul Mulk and Bahadur Khan” is a superb Akbarnama miniature painted by the Persian court artist called Farrokh Beg. The artist depicts the delicate diplomatic meeting between the king’s envoy and the rebellious nobleman in the royal pavilion, which is placed on the rocky natural landscape. The contrast between the luxurious environment of the pavilion and the wild nature outside emphasizes the importance of the meeting through the scale of figures, their clothing, and facial expression. Overall, the miniature is a perfect example of the Persian painting tradition within the Mughal dynasty since it combines the unique lines and brightly colored brushstrokes with intricate details of the artists who worked in Emperor Akbar’s court.
