Sahibdin was the foremost painter of the Mewar School of painting, he was active during the reign of Maharana Jagat Singh I. His known works is the Ragamala series.
In Malavi ragini, it is always depicted as a couple approaching to bedchamber accompanied by the servant or maid. Here also- couple are depicted as walking together toward their bed chamber which symbolize the romatic union.
The bedchamber is open to view- also has elegant architectural features such as a domed and the decorative chhatris which are characterstics of the Rajput archietcture. A maidservant is portrayed standing on the staircase, suggesting her role in attending to the couple and adding a narrative element to the composition.
The scene is set in the night indicated by the dark background- in the foreground, two vase are depicted.
The female figure is dressed in ghagra, choli and diaphonous dupatta, while the male figure wears richly ornamented jama. Malavi Ragini exemplifies Sahibdin's mastery of storytelling and the mature style of the Mewar school of painting.
