This piece titled ,' Kannauj,the Ancestral Kingdom of the Rathores ' depicts a historically significant moment.Painted approximately around 1829 c, the influence of nineteenth century painting style is clearly visible. The Rathores trace their ancestral roots back to Kannauj. Kannauj was one of the greatest kingdoms in northern India back then. They left Kannauj in 1194. With their ruler Jayachand being defeated by the opulent troops of Mohammad Ghori, the luminous rule of the Rathores to an end. This painting was commissioned approximately seven centuries post the migration. This painting of the city of Kannauj depicts the glory of the Rathores . Using multiple perspectives, the artists portrayed the walled city on the banks of the river Ganges . Horsemen riding away from the city allude to the migration of the Rathores . The vibrant usage of colours on the painting is very typical of the Jodhpur school of painting The usage of pink bricks in the painting indicates the linkage of pink to Jaipur, since it's called the pink city of India. The abundance of green in the paintings reflects upon the lush greenery of the city. Kannauj's prosperity is directly linked with the greenery since green represents wealth and prosperity . The royal garbs of the riders denote their status .
