Kamala

Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Watercolor
Current Location: Delhi Art Gallery

This painting beautifully depcis Kamala, which is considered another form of the goddess Lakshmi. She has a glowing halo with big earrings, and many necklaces. Her eyes look down gracefully, while having a gentle smile on her lips. Her hands are raised in a calm, graceful pose. The warm brown, red, and yellow colors make her feel close and human. The artist, Sunayani Devi, had no formal training. She mixed folk art with spiritual themes. For me, this painting feels peaceful and holy. It shows a kind goddess who brings good luck and happiness. The halo makes her look divine, but her simple face makes her feel warm and approachable.
