Abu’l Hasan was a notable master miniature painter in the court of Jahangir who was presented with the honor, “Nadir-uz-Saman” which translated as a wonder of the age. He illustrated innumerable subjects and themes throughout his lifetime. But his ability to blend European and Persian iconography and techniques made him distinguished from his contemporaries. He is celebrated for his magnificent allegorical portraits. This specific illustration was made after the death of the emperor showcases Jahangir; the world seizure holding a globe. It represents his idea of dominance over the world and symbolizes the vastness of his kingdom. The radiance of halo behind his head evokes European imagery of their divine figures. Hasan made him a centre of the compositing standing on a pedestal wearing a robe of golden threads. We can clearly witness the royalty of the emperor by his jewellery and his decorated turban with plumes sticking out of it. He is holding a gold studded shield in his left hand while a sword is hanging from his sash. Abu’l Hasan became a significant painter during his days as explored painting deep metaphors that ultimately turned to be the most distinguished characteristics of his work.
