Heat- Running Dog

Support Type: Mixed Support
Paint Type: Tempera
Current Location: Martiros Saryan Museum

To me, this painting really captures the feeling of a scorching hot day. The way the artist used flat blocks of yellow and ochre for the ground makes the heat feel almost suffocating, like the air itself is heavy. The black shape of the dog running across the scene is what catches my eye first — it feels tense and urgent, like the dog is trying to escape the heat rather than just playing. The simplified shapes and lack of small details make the whole scene feel more like a memory or an impression than a realistic photo of a place, which I think fits the theme of heat really well, since intense heat can make everything look blurry and simplified in real life too. Overall, the painting makes me feel the discomfort of a hot day just by looking at the colors, even without any people in the scene
