The provenance of Carle Van Loo’s ‘Halt of the Hunt’ traces from an 1783 Paris auction at the Maison des Ecuries de Mme la Princesse de Lamballe through the collections of David David-Weill and Robert Dows Brewster. Following Brewster’s passing, it was sold at Sotheby’s in 1995 to Colnaghi, which subsequently sold it that same year to The Metropolitan Museum of Art via the Wrightsman Fund
