Ghulam Ali Khan was a famous painter in Delhi during the nineteenth century. He was great at painting in the Company style which's a mix of traditional Mughal and European techniques. His paintings show the beautiful buildings of Delhi in a very detailed way. They are like a record of what Delhi was like back then. In one of his paintings he drew the Jama Masjid of Delhi. The painting shows a precise and architectural style, which is typical of Company style watercolor paintings. The artist used a front view and paid a lot of attention to symmetry. He chose colors that're natural and restrained with terracotta red ochre being the main color for the big sandstone buildings. The marble domes and arches are painted in an off-white color. The brushwork is very fine and controlled with watercolor washes and fine pen-and-ink outlines. The shadows on the building are soft and gray which gives a sense of daylight and makes the building look even bigger.
The Jama Masjid is one of the mosques in India. It was built between 1644 and 1656 in Old Delhi by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. It was built by thousands of workers under the supervision of Sadullah Khan and Fazil Khan. The mosque was inaugurated on July 23 1656. It served as the main mosque for the Mughal empire until 1857. The building is designed to face west towards Mecca. It is built on a high platform. It has three gates and grand stairways and the inside is decorated with intricate calligraphic inscriptions. The Jama Masjid is still a place for worship and is a symbol of India's national heritage. It has survived important events in history and is still standing today. The mosque is built with sandstone and white marble with black marble accents. It has an eastern entrance with three stories. The Jama Masjid has been through a lot, including the 1757 recitation of the khutba for Ahmad Shah Durrani and the destruction of its imperial college during the 1857 uprisings.. It is still a vibrant place for communal worship and is home to many historic relics. The Jama Masjid is an important monument and a symbol of India's rich history.
