Escapade at Night

Artist:Chokha
Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Mixed Media
Current Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Escapade at Night is a fine example of Rajput style miniature painting. There are many elements in the composition but the mindful use of colors and contrast between subject and elements showcase Chokha's mastery in his ability to compose a narrative into a single panel. The composition is flat and lack linear perspective but they play of values and scale gives you a sense of that physical environment. The theme of this painting gives us an idea about the social and cultural aspects of that time.
