Orazio Gentileschi's painting "Diana the Huntress" is an image of a woman associated with natural strength and mythological greatness. Diana is depicted at the moment of hunting: her posture is tensely collected, her gaze is directed forward, as if she already hears the prey or the trail. The figure stands out with a calm, almost regal confidence against the background of a hunting scene, where movement and the atmosphere of the forest are important. Gentileschi masterfully combines grace and severity. Light turns of the body, the dynamics of the hand and the overall rhythm of the composition create the feeling that everything in the frame is subordinated to one moment - Diana’s decisive step forward. Light plays an important role: it builds the volume of the body and clothing, makes the details of hunting equipment and the silhouette of the figure sound especially expressive. Thanks to this, the mythological character becomes almost real - closer to a living person than to a cold allegory.
