Dhobi Talao

Support Type: Canvas
Paint Type: Oil Paint
Current Location: DAG (Delhi Art Gallery) Museum Collection, India.
Location History:The painting forms part of the DAG Museum Collection. It has been featured in exhibitions on the history of Indian landscape painting, including New Found Lands: The Indian Landscape from Empire to Freedom and Once Upon a Time in Bombay, which explored Bombay’s changing urban landscape through historical artworks.

The painting Dhobi Talao conveys the message that beauty and meaning can be found in ordinary, everyday surroundings. Its peaceful landscape, resting animals, calm water and warm sunlight remind us of the deep connection between humans, animals and nature. The work also encourages viewers to pause and appreciate simplicity in a rapidly changing world. To me it represents the importance of preserving memories, environments and cultural heritage before they disappear through urbanisation and modern development. Bomanjee’s sensitive observation shows that art is not merely decoration but also a powerful means of recording history, emotions and changing ways of life.
