One of the most prominent artists from the unique Nurpur style of Pahari miniature painting was Golu, who established an essential base for appreciating the above painting, Dhira Nayika, featured in the Museum Rietberg collection. This particular art form flourished from the 1600s to the 1800s in the small Rajput states located at the base of the western Himalayas, focusing on emotional depth rather than rigid realism. Within this backdrop, the Nurpur royal court nurtured a lively artistic culture, passed down through a long lineage of creators. Golu, the son of Devidasa and grandson of Kripal, drew from a rich heritage of detailed illustrations and bright color schemes inherited from both his father and grandfather, successfully transforming the raw emotional intensity of early Basohli-inspired art into a refined style featuring elongated facial structures, beautifully shaped almond-shaped eyes, and elaborate architectural backgrounds. This resulted in his creation of a Rasamanjari folio series in 1695
