Cycle of Life

Support Type: Paper
Paint Type: Watercolor
Current Location: DAG, India.

This piece makes me think a lot. It appears to show different stages of life through having three figures close together. The middle figure has their face facing forwards giving a young feel. The older face in the background gives a more thoughtful feel. The figure leaning forward from the left makes me feel quite sentimental and protective, and maybe even a bit sad. What makes me stand out is the contrast between the soft human figures and the large empty area. This does not make me feel like it is incomplete but gives the figures an ethereal feel. The empty space also means I can focus on the facial expressions and actions of the figures. The colour palette is quite calm and sensitive with soft pencil lines and small details. I feel like this piece is a reflection on how time moves on, we are linked to the next generation and that change is unavoidable. Even though they appear to be linked together they have different facial expressions which makes me feel like they are all having different experiences in life. The title of the painting Cycle of Life makes me think about how we are all linked together through being born, growing up, remembering and ageing. Overall this painting makes me feel like humans are fragile and relationships are important. It uses a very sensitive and delicate visual language.
