Location History:Late 20th century –2025- Belonged to the Pal Family Collection 2025- The painting "At the Strain of the Flute" by Ranada Charan Ukil (1900–1970) was sold at Christie's New York on September 24, 2025 as part of the "Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian Works of Art Including Property from the Pal Family Collection" auction

Most of the information regarding the painting is something that I got from the description itself and not via an external source even after looking it up. However when I look at the painting, it does seem like the person displayed in the painting seems to be distracted by something that they hear while they were on their way to either fetch water or on their way back after fetching. Given the name of the painting, it could also insinuate that the very thing that the person is distracted by is the sound of a flute.
