Ranada Ukil (1900–1970) was an important Indian painter associated with the Bengal School and the early Delhi art movement. He was the youngest of the three Ukil brothers—Sarada, Barada, and Ranada—and developed his artistic practice within a family closely involved in the revival of Indian art. He was influenced by the artistic ideas of Abanindranath Tagore, particularly the emphasis on Indian themes, delicate line work, lyrical colour, and non-Western pictorial traditions. Ranada is particularly remembered for his watercolours and mythological and figurative subjects. His paintings combine decorative colour, graceful drawing, and influences from Indian miniature traditions and the Company School. A contemporary account praised his delicate lines, distinctive colour schemes, tonal treatment, and almost dreamlike atmosphere.
