According to legends swans sing when the west-wind blows. The stag-lyre in the picture represents the ability to hear keenly, thus harnessing the power of deep listening in creating music.

According to McGee, the musical instruments are not being played; they are upside down. The blood on the wings of Putti is a symbol of violence.
